Why should you choose Southern Granary?

There are a lot of wedding venues in Virginia. Here's what makes us different — and why it matters on your wedding day.

Weather shouldn’t be the thing you worry about most.

The Meadow is where most couples get married — four acres of open space, tree-lined, private, and beautiful in every season. The covered Patio and the climate-controlled interior are equally lovely options. Ceremony chairs are set up the morning of the wedding, which means the final call on location can be made that day based on the forecast. No extra fees for switching. No pressure.

Virginia weather keeps us humble, and we plan accordingly.

Your coordinator is already handled.

Most venues don't include one. At Southern Granary, an in-house Day-of Coordinator comes with every wedding — no extra invoice, no searching. She knows this space, knows our vendors, and loves what she does. She runs your rehearsal, coordinates with every vendor, cues the processional, and keeps things moving quietly behind the scenes so you never have to.

The couples who feel most relaxed on their wedding day almost always had a great coordinator. Yours is already included.

You don’t have to build your vendor team from scratch.

Over nearly 200 weddings we've narrowed down the vendors who show up prepared, do excellent work, and know this space. Our Dream Team — anchored by Judith and her Sisterly Ways team, who handle catering, bartending, decorating, and sometimes florals — makes it possible to check off most of your vendor list in one conversation. We also have trusted DJs, photographers, officiants, and more. None of it is required. All of it is there if you want it.

Pricing that fits what you actually need.

We don't offer one-size-fits-all packages. Your price is based on your guest count and your selections — add a rehearsal day, extend your hours, or take a discount for a Patio or indoor ceremony. Sample packages with real numbers are on our pricing page. No guesswork, no hidden fees.

Your out-of-town family has somewhere wonderful to land.

Our six-bedroom, four-bath Guesthouse is the only large group house available as a short-term rental in Altavista, and it's one minute from the venue. Wedding families check in Friday, gather for rehearsal dinner on the Patio, end the night at the hot tub and fire pit, and wake up Saturday already exactly where they need to be. Southern Granary brides receive a custom promo through our reservation partner Purpose Driven Stays.

This place has a story - and it shows.

This building was a working grain mill in the 1950s, then a feed store our family ran while our kids grew up here. We renovated it ourselves — built the farmhouse tables, ran the sawmill, did the work. The polished concrete floors, the vintage steel sliding door with old math problems still penciled on it, the original windows — none of that was designed to look a certain way. It just happened to be here.

Three of our daughters have gotten married in this building. That probably tells you something about how we feel about it.

If any of this sounds like what you've been looking for, come see it in person. Tours are one of our favorite parts of this whole thing.
